It was posted in Curt Smith's blog today that he needs everyone's help to spread the word about him and his new cd, "Halfway, Pleased". Here's what Curt has said about the progress to release his cd in the US:

January 10, 2008 - Thursday

"Since my last post I've been in semi negotiations with Universal regarding a US release of "Halfway, pleased", it came to a head over the weekend. Their offer was that they'd take 80% with no marketing guarantee at all. So after much soul searching I decided to say no. Let me say at this point that I do thoroughly appreciate the help and effort of our friend Jay Gilbert in the process, but through no fault of his own he works within a broken system. I paid for the record, I own the record, so why would I give away 80% with no guarantee that they'd do anything with it. On top of that it's a project that's very dear to me and I don't want to see it lost amongst the other hundreds of releases they have this quarter.

That having been said, now what do I do? Owning a record and not doing anything with it is the equivalent of owning a vacant house and refusing to rent it out. So one way or another I will be doing it myself. The label will be mine and the distribution will be sorted out soon (i.e. whether I do that myself or go through a distribution company for a much much smaller %). Whatever happens I will decide within the next two weeks because I'm on a roll.

To start with I've been searching out everyone with TFF mentioned under "musical tastes" (yes those add requests have been coming from me). It's very time consuming but then I'll at least have my own e-mail and contact list, something else record companies jealously guard. So the CS/TFF change is because some people have written back saying it took a while to work out who I was - "how could that be?" I hear you ask, well believe me it be :)

So to this end I'm reaching out to all of you to join in and become involved, the least that will happen is that it will be fun and I won't feel at the mercy of some huge conglomerate that really doesn't give a sh.t about my music (the conglomerate, not the individual people that may work there)."

Here are some ideas Curt has come up with for us all:

January 10, 2008 - Thursday

"I'm touched........

....not in the "all of the deck chairs are not on the pier" sense (although that could be open for debate), but by all of your responses. I know you have a ton of questions pending but let's start with "what can we do to help?". Here's a couple of suggestions:

-- adding me to your Top Friends on MySpace

-- adding one of my songs to your profile by clicking the word "add" next to any of the songs I've got posted on my page*

-- adding the SoS video to your profile by clicking "add to my profile" right under the video window*

-- encouraging your MySpace Friends to visit my page and add me as a Friend

* songs and videos with surges in plays/adds can end up getting featured on the front of the music/tv main pages.

I'm sure all of you can come up with a few ideas also, so let's see how many people we can add to the cause.

More soon.
Mr. Smith is going back to clicking the "add" button."

So let's all ban together and support Curt! Forward his page to everyone on your friends' list, tell them to forward, tell them to forward and so on. You can even pass this blog on to anyone and everyone you know. Use your regular email and tell your friends there about Curt! Do what you can to spread the word!! ~Lissa
